Three years of paintings from 2017, 2018 and 2019. These paintings are a collectors and art lovers dream-acquisition at an exceptionally time in the career of this artist.
Barbara Hope Steinberg was born in Philadelphia in 1943. From a very young age, she spent evenings and weekends studying in various art schools in the city, eventually being awarded both art and academic scholarships to Smith College in Massachusetts. Whilst at Smith College, she won a scholarship to the Yale University Summer School of Art and Music.
On graduating, she received a grant to study sculpture in England, first with Ralph Brown at the West of England College of Art, then privately with Michael Ayrton in London. The artist returned briefly to America, to teach sculpture and take a Master of Fine Arts Degree at California State University at Long Beach. In 1970, Barbara returned to live permanently in London. After spending almost twenty years making sculpture, the artist decided to return to painting as her main choice of expression.
Barbara Hope Steinberg has exhibited in many group shows throughout the UK and has had several solo exhibitions including regular solo exhibitions at the Signal Gallery, London from 2007 until 2014. From 2017 to 2019 she became increasingly interested in ‘Crows’, and produced thirty two large paintings, which is now a completed series of work.
“…these paintings are totally; unique and demonstrate the artist’s depth of natural talent and sharp intellectual understanding of colour and tone. It was my great pleasure to visit Barbara in her London studio, where we discussed the possibility of exhibiting the work.”
